We are governed
by our thoughts. Thoughts rule us day in and day out. It is these thoughts that
determine our mood. If the thoughts are pleasant, we feel happy; if thoughts
are troublesome, we tend to become unhappy and behave accordingly. Our
behaviour too is regulated by our thoughts. Therefore our mood swings along
with our thoughts. If we can know the secrets of controlling the thoughts, we
will understand how we can control our mood.
Sometimes, we know that we
have to engage ourselves in a work, which is very urgent, but we can’t concentrate
ourselves in the work. There is an exam to appear, we need to prepare
thoroughly for the exam, but we can’t concentrate properly when time requires. We need to talk to
someone urgently, but due to some problems we are angry with our own self or
somebody else and hence unable to control ourselves to behave properly. Why??? The
answer is we don’t have the mood to work, to prepare for exam and to talk with
someone properly. Now if we can’t control our mood then how can we move forward
in life? How can we do all our good works? If we need to find the answer, then
we must know the secrets of controlling our mood.
Secrets of thoughts:
If
we want to control our moods, we need to understand the secrets of thoughts.
Since birth, consciously and unconsciously we are developing our thought
pattern. All these thoughts that we have today are the products of our
circumstances, experiences and practices. We are the product of our
circumstances. Our thoughts are conditioned by our circumstances. And hence, we
tend to behave in the same manner that we have learnt to react in a similar
manner since childhood. We used to feel that the thought pattern and behavioural
pattern which we have developed as natural and we behave accordingly. More
importantly we become used to these thought patterns and become addicted.
Secrets of Mood
Control:
Now, is it possible to change the mood and
engage ourselves in the work in hand? My answer is 100% possible. There are two
ways: one is short term and the another is long term. The method is same but
the practice is different.
The secret of controlling
our mood is detachment from the negative thoughts. Detach yourself from the
thought that disturbs you. Shift your thoughts to another area. As you change
the channel of your television with the help of the Remote Control, change the
thought that is disturbing you consciously, to other area that can make you
happy. When you feel happy, you are back to normalcy. It is happiness, which is
our natural state of mind. Detach yourself from the disturbed thought and
engage yourself in an interesting thought that you like very much. It will
hardly take a minute or five to change your mood and your behaviour. However this
is a short term policy. Suppose you need to prepare for a presentation, an
interview or an exam, you just try to focus on the benefits that you will get
after qualifying the exam or the interview. Focus on why is it very important
for you to do the piece of work in hand. If you can understand the importance
automatically you will be able to concentrate on it. Your mind will
automatically be ready to receive what you will want to feed. But it depends on
how serious you are to qualify it! If you are not serious then perhaps you may not be able to
make any difference.
But the long term policy is
bit difficult for which you need to take action. By practicing detachment you
can be free from any disturbed thoughts immediately. But if that thought is
genuine, then although you may detach yourself mentally, but the problem will
remain. And for that you have to take action. Take action to remove the causes of
your anxieties. Worries protect us from unnecessary troubles that may arise in
the future. Therefore worry is good. But unnecessary worries are useless.
Unnecessary worries arise out of imagination and they are not real. Do not
become victim of unnecessary worries. Throw out them with the help of knowledge
and wisdom. But real worries we need to work out to find out the remedies. To
find out the remedies and solve them we need to work on them and overcome them
and finally we will be able to detach ourselves from them. This finding out of
remedies can only be done by oneself. If you do not find the remedy, then you
will remain as a victim of worries. Know your problem, seek knowledge,information and help to overcome them.
Practical Tips to Control your
Mood:
Have a definite aim in life: Channelize all your
energies to reach your aim. Never allow other tiny matters to distract you.
Take daily steps to realize your aim in life. As a result every day you will be elevated
towards your goal and which will give you happiness and satisfaction. Beware of
only those things or activities that take you away from your aim in life.
Have some ideals in your life: If you do not
set ideal in your life, then you will not know how to behave in some critical
situations. It is those affixed ideals which will only help us to rise above
worse situations.
You are what you think: Practice detachment
from unwanted thoughts and concentrate on what you want, to get your desired
results. Entertain good thoughts to become a happy and prosperous person.
Happiness is the secret to all prosperity:
If there is peace of mind, harmony of thoughts then only you can concentrate on
any work properly. Therefore to remain happy, never run away from your duty.
Perform your allotted or affixed duties at all cost. Otherwise self condemnation will ruin you. You
will have to repent later on. Remember, happiness is
not free. You need to pay the price.
Put required efforts: It is only effort which
is under our control. We can’t control other people. We can’t control any
situation directly. But we can put our effort in a direction. Put effort as a work desires. If you put the required
effort, you will get the desired result automatically. But if you do not do the
work properly and keep only on wishing to accomplish, you will miserably fail.
Mind your own business: Never try to control
each and everything. Never bother about things which are none of your business.
Try to give up things or worries which are not directly related to your aim or
goals. Develop the habit of tolerance to ignore things which are not meant for
your concern.
