HOW TO DEVELOP YOUR MEMORY
BHASKAR JYOTI BORAH
Memory is one of our primary
intellectual faculties. Whatever we learn in our life - the knowledge and information,
work and experience everything, we store in our memory. If our memory is poor
we can’t excel in our life. In exams and interviews we have to solely depend
only on our memory. Even in business it is memory that aids money. If we want
to become a good speaker in our life, it is memory which only helps. Powerful
memory makes a powerful person. A person with poor memory can’t climb the ladder of super success. The success of person with poor memory is limited. On the other hand a person of super memory can attain super success
in life.
I am not a trainer of memory.
But with my knowledge and limited practice of memory I used to handle my
profession and day to day activities effectively. But the same if practiced
earnestly can give you a super power memory and tremendous success in your life. I have
given below the list of books from where I have learnt the various memory
techniques.
First of all to know your
present capacity of your memory you have to undergo a test of Memory. Ready....steady....go...
Memory Test No. 1:
Memorize the following words
within 3 minutes. Set your time and start.
1.
Pen,
2.
Paper,
3.
Book,
4.
Car,
5.
Apple,
6.
Chair,
7.
Cinema,
8.
Mobile Phone,
9.
Television,
10.
Aeroplane.
After three minutes stop
memorizing and answer the following questions.
1.
How many numbers of the above items can
you recall?
2.
Can you recall all the items serially?
3.
Can you recall them as per their serial
number? If I ask you what item is there in number five, can you answer
immediately?
4.
Can you recall them in the descending
order?
Most of you will be able to memorize only the items,
may not be in order. Some of you can recall them serially from 1 to 10. But
there will be very few who can recall all the items as per their serial number and
also to recall them serially in the descending order. Now the question is can
it be made possible. My answer is ‘yes’. And let me explain to you, how?
There are certain methods or
systems of Memory.
1.
Link System and
2.
Peg System
Link system will help you to memorize things serially
and Peg system to memorize in and out of order. Here I am going to write about the Link System
of Memory.
In these system of memory you will learn to
ridiculously associate things to your memory. Many a times we recall things in
our life only when we used to get a correlation of the things that we want to recall, which we can’t recall normally.
It is a proof of the fact that Memory becomes powerful when aided. In the
process, imagination and visualization plays the major role. We will learn here how to link things to our memory with the help of imagination,
visualization and ridiculous association.
Now let’s begin with the ten words that I have given
you in the Memory Exercise.
The first word is Pen. Imagine you are holding a pen
in your hand.
Second word is Paper. Imagine you are using your pen
and writing in a paper.
Third word is Book. Now imagine that you are reading
a book and from the book you are writing down the main points in the paper with
the help of your pen.
Fourth word is Car. Imagine a Car full of books. You
are driving the car with books and somehow you are getting little space for you
in the car to drive it.
The Fifth word is Apple. Imagine that Books that you
are carrying in the car is about Apples. Or you can imagine that you are also
eating an apple while driving the car of books and the books are creating
disturbances while driving the car.
The Sixth word is Chair. Now link apple to chair.
Imagine that the Chair in the Car is Apple shaped. The seat is almost like an
Apple and you are eating the Chair instead of the Apple.
The Seventh word is Cinema. Now imagine that you are
watching your favourite Cinema by eating the Apple like Chair. Recall some of
the moments of the cinema and add to your imagination to make it more vivid.
The Eight word is Mobile Phone. Imagine while
watching the Cinema eating the Chair which look like an Apple, your Mobile
Phone rings. Or you can also imagine that you are watching the Cinema in your
Mobile Phone.
The Ninth word is Television. Now imagine that your
Mobile Phone is as big as your Television.
The Tenth word is Aeroplane. Imagine that your
Mobile Phone which is as big as your Television, you are sitting on it and the
Television is flying like an Aeroplane.
Now associate all these words nicely with your
imagination and visualization like a story and you will be able to automatically
remember these as long as you want to retain in your memory.
This is known as the Link System of Memory. With the
help of this link system you can retain in your memory any lists of words or
things for longer duration or permanently.
How
can you utilize the Link System?
1.
You can memorize big lists without any
problem and can retain them permanently.
2.
You can memorize the key content of a
book. Once you master the Link System and you can find out the key words of a
book and link them. You can easily recall the contents of a whole book. But for
that you have to do daily practices.
3.
Suppose you are invited as a Speaker.
You can arrange the key words of your speech, link them as a story and continue
speaking without any problem for longer duration.
4. If you want to memorize any notes, article
or any document with the help of this link
system you can make memorizing easier.
5.
You can also improve your vocabulary by
using this link system. In every word try to find a key to link it to the
meaning e.g. Dolorous (adj.) is a word which means sad. You can take Dollar as
a keyword and use your imagination to link it to the meaning that is ‘Sad’.
Suppose You have ‘Dollars’ in your pocket and some robbers snatched your ‘Dollars’
from you and that’s why you are ‘Sad’. So the word Dollars will remind you
about Dolorous.
Make Memory a
fun with the help of this link system.
