Nothing works
for you unless and until you develop a plan to achieve the goals that you set
for yourself. You can’t set a goal for yourself if you do not know why it is so very important for you to achieve that goal. If you set a goal without knowing the ‘why’, you may
not be able to achieve your chosen goals. It is because behind our every action
there is a reason; a reason that drives us towards action; a reason that
triggers our passion, emotion, devotion and motivation. If our work is driven by that
reason or rationality we do not need any external motivational factors. In that
case our motivation to do something will come from within. If we need regular
motivations externally, we may run out of track. Therefore to develop self
motivation we need a ‘why factor’. We must internalize the reason for what our
actions meant for.
I have wasted most of my precious time
in life because I have not find out the ‘why factor’ of my goals. I got
motivated by anything and everything without any valid reason. I determined
goals but all of them started differing and changing without any control from
my part since I have not determined the ‘why factor’ of my goals. Needless to
say I couldn’t achieve any one of them. I got stuck in between staying confused
and frustrated without having any firm conviction to achieve them. I become a
means for other people’s success. I didn’t get the credibility of bringing
success to my account. It is because there is a general tendency in any
individual to forget what they have determined. You need to remind yourself
time and again about what do you want, how do you want and most importantly why
do you want? There are thousands of examples of failures and unfulfilled dreams.
When people forget the rationality of their action, they used to loss their
speed, motivation and direction to reach their destinies. The ‘why factor’ is therefore responsible for
deciding the success or failure of a person. If you have set some goals for you
and you want to achieve them, you have to find out the ‘why factor’.
Following
is an exercise for you before you proceed further:
1. Prepare
your own ‘Book of Goals’ and list down all your goals there.
2. After listing down your goals determine the
‘why factor’ of your every single goal.
3. Write
down why the achieving of the goals is so very important for you?
4. If you do not achieve your goals then what
might happen to you?
5. What
are the biggest changes that may take place in your life if you achieve those
goals?
After
undergoing the above exercise you will be able to know the reasons why you want
to achieve the chosen goals in your life. Until and unless you find a valid and
strong reason or ‘why factor’ don’t gear up into action. Keep on finding the
most relevant ‘why factor’ which will be suffice to push you into action. Never
change the Goal once decided. Keep your ‘Book of Goals’ handy. Go through the
book at least once in a day. Internalize the why factors of your every single
goal.
WHAT DIFFERENCE THE ‘WHY FACTOR’ MAY BRING INTO YOUR
LIFE?
1. This
‘why factor’ enables
you to take control of your life. When your thoughts and actions are
uncontrolled, your destiny will also be out of control. Your thoughts and actions will become more specific only when you know the rationale behind.
2. Your
ability to control your thoughts and actions is the gateway to High Performance and High
Achievements. You must not waste your time and energy in meaningless
thoughts, purpose and actions. You can perform better and achieve more when you know the 'why factor' of your actions.
3. You
must be able to direct yourself in proper direction and for which you need the
‘why factor’. It
clarifies your vision towards life and you can see the reality as it
is. You will become more specific. The more clear you are about what you want
in your life and why you want, the more probable you become to accomplish it.
4. Don’t
wait for something without any effort. Only persistent and determined efforts
bring rewards. All the rest talks are meaningless. Persistency and iron determination comes
out only by knowing why you want to move into action.
5. When you know the rationale behind your thoughts and actions, you will be able to prepare effective strategies to realize your goals. Things will become crystal clear to you. You will not only be able to develop proper strategies to realize your goals, make effective decisions and manage your works but also you will be able to lead others effectively.

If
you want to apply the practice of ‘why factor’ in your life, you have to remain
in tune with your goals. You need to harmonise yourself and your activities in
the line of your goals. You must prefer your priorities. You need to practice tremendous self-control and self-discipline in your life. You need to learn to
say ‘no’ to people gracefully, to avoid unnecessary engagements that may waste
your time and energy. Limit your ‘why factor’ only to your goals. Allow
flexibility on humanitarian grounds. People are more important than your ‘why
factor’. You must ‘know’ where to say ‘no’ to people. But remember your
devotion to your work should be unconditional and equally your love to your
beloved ones. Don’t bring ‘why factor’ to the basic and the most important
relationships.
