A person’s success is
measured by the quality of his achievements. Greater achievements make a person
ineffable and admirable. But the problem is that great achievements never come
out of ordinary effort. It requires extraordinary effort, extraordinary ‘Why
Factor’ to push you forward, extraordinary motivation and 'will' to persist. And
that is why Successful people are very few in number. All the people are never
meant to live a great life. If you want to choose a great life, you need to
take actions that will lead you to the results you want. Your testimonials of
greatness and success are your achievements. You might have heard those popular
advises, ‘work hard’, ‘never give up’, ‘keep practicing’, ‘persist’ etc. But
when you want to multiply your achievements these advises are not adequate. Here I am
going to write about 3 secrets that can transform you to a High Performer and lead you to Super Productivity.
First
Secret:
If you want to multiply your achievements the first and foremost task is to determine what you want exactly and specifically with Clarity and organize yourself to take actions. The First Secret is therefore to, Seek CLARITY. Clarity on what do you want in your life, and what will bring you the greatest meaning and value. Clarity is power. Clarity is the vision that empowers you to remain on your mission to multiply your achievements to become Super Productive. When you know exactly what you want and how to get what you want, you can achieve it. You get instant energy to devote yourself to your work when you attain clarity. But if you don’t know what you want exactly and you work very hard without proper direction, it will never lead to productivity. You will remain confused and frustrated. Productivity is not about keeping yourself busy. It is about undertaking those activities that you prioritize over other activities which are less important for you to get engaged. Productivity is all about activities that give you results.
Second
Secret:
Stuart Jenkins was denied to
continue his education in his school announcing that he is learning disabled.
He was labelled as ‘dumb’ and ‘stupid’. But he not just simply graduated high
school; he also became student body president and went on to a graduate college
with a 3.2 grade point average. And all become possible because of his strict
adherence to discipline. His love for running prompted him to set a goal to
qualify for the Olympic Trials. He started practicing at the age of 15 for that
great race. He did not miss his practicing even for a single day for 8 years.
To run his qualifying race of 26 miles he had run exactly 26,000 miles in
preparation. 1000 miles of preparation for every mile in the race is really an
extraordinary and unbelievable effort that leads him to qualify for the
Olympics by just FOUR SECONDS!1 And all that has become possible
because of his extraordinary self-discipline for 8 long years.
If you want to multiply your
Achievements, you need to Discipline yourself. The Second Secret is therefore, Discipline.
You need to discipline yourself to undertake those activities which only will
lead you to the results you want. You need to control yourself and FOCUS your
mind and energy more on your Priority Areas every day. If you waste a day, your achievements will also get delayed for a day.
Therefore never waste more time in activities which are not in your priority. Self-discipline
is not bondage; self-discipline is not self-limitation; rather it is the
process that leads you to freedom. It is the vehicle of discipline that only
can lead you to your chosen destination in life. If you don’t control and
discipline yourself to succeed, your circumstances will lead you to failure.
Stephen Covey once said, “The undisciplined are slaves to moods, appetites and
passions.”
Third
Secret:
The Third Secret is the most
important one and that is Personal Integrity. Personal Integrity merges both Clarity
and Discipline to accomplish the Goal of Multiplying Your Productivity. Personal
Integrity implies Commitments to your words and promises. Most of the time you
undertake works, activities or projects for yourself and it remains incomplete.
The loop of those activities remains open. If you are among those people who
never leave projects incomplete, your productivity is unquestionable. But in
general most of the people starts with a zeal and determination and stops
without achieving the results. Therefore
whenever you start any endeavour, start it always with Clarity, maintain it
with proper Discipline and accomplish it with utmost Integrity.
Assess
Your Productivity:
Assess your productivity by asking the following
questions:
1.
Do you wake up at the same time every
day?
2.
What is your personal integrity level?
Do you keep all your promises you make to yourself?
3.
What are your beliefs that you used to
justify your lack of discipline?
4.
What are the assignments or activities
that you have started but never finished?
5.
What percentage of the day you invest in
your most valued works?
6.
How many hours of the day you work on a
daily basis?
7.
How many hours you waste in a day in
unproductive works?
8.
Which are the areas where if you
discipline yourself will take you to the next level?
Please ensure not to distract yourself from your
Discipline. Schedule Your Disciplines and implement them on a daily basis.
Because in the ultimate analysis it is the days combined together that make a life.
Make your days productive and your productivity will be spontaneous. As Annie
Dillard said, “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.”
