"Rich are the diligent, who can command
Time,
nature's stock! and could his hour-glass fall,
Would, as for seed of stars, stoop for the sand,
And, by incessant labor, gather all."
—D'Avenant

Once upon a time a pair of doves laid
eggs in the paddy field of a farmer. Within a period of one month of time the
eggs hatched and their babies were born. When the babies started growing
suddenly one day the farmer of the paddy field came with his son and started
discussing about the harvesting of the crops. The father asked his son to
manage some people from their village next week for harvesting the crops.
Hearing this, the male dove became worried. However the female dove was very
wise. She gently asked her husband not
to worry. One week passed. The children of the doves became bigger. Their wings
and feathers were gradually developing. Again suddenly the farmer and his son
came to visit their paddy field. The farmer enquired his son about managing
labourers for harvesting. The son replied that the labourers are very busy
these days, so they can come only next week. The farmer expressed his doubt and
to re-ensure once again he asked his son, “Will they come for sure?” The son
replied, “Sure father, they have promised me to come.” After that both of them
left. This time the male dove became more worried and expresses his concern to
his wife. The wife said to him gently, “Nothing will happen, don’t worry dear.”
The baby doves kept on growing. They started flapping their feathers but still
they need more time to be ready for a flight. Again the farmer came with his
son to the paddy field. This time the farmer was angry and frustrated. He asked
his son about the labourers to harvest the crops. The son replied that the
labourers promised to come after one week only. Then the father replied, “Son,
it seems we can’t rely on the words of the labourers. It will be better to
inform our family members and come for harvesting within two –three days. The
son agreed to his father. By the next two three days the baby doves almost
become ready to fly. When the farmer came for the harvesting with his family
members, the dove family silently flew away from that paddy field in search of
another destination. The male dove on the way asked his wife, “How do you come
to know that the farmers will not come for harvesting in the previous times
that they were supposed to come? Then the female dove replied, “The previous
two times they were depending upon others. But this time when they have decided
to manage things by themselves then I come to know that they are going to do it.”
You are your biggest friend and you yourself are
your biggest enemy. If your acts resonate with what you want in your life, you will succeed but if you do not take steps and rely much on external factors, your possibility
of failure is more. Therefore, be conscious. Be conscious about what lifestyle
do you want for yourself? What type of people you want to be surrounded by? What
environment do you want to live in? What earnings do you want to create a
better future? What Goals you want to achieve? Who are the people or mentors
that can help you to achieve your goals? ........you need to find out all the
answers of these questions and take action to create the conditions. Unless and until you move by yourself,
no external factors can help you to make a move. It is You Yourself who can lead Yourself ‘to Success’ or ‘to Failure.’
"God helps those who help themselves," is
a well-tried maxim. Samuel Smiles in his book “Self-Help” wrote, “The spirit of
self-help is the root of all genuine growth in the individual; and, exhibited in
the lives of many.” He also very rightly stated, “Help from without is often
enfeebling in its effects, but help from within invariably invigorates.”
The first step to change, therefore, must come from ‘oneself’. No external factor
is permanent. You must find out consistent internal motivation for yourself
deciding a goal to achieve that transforms you from your Lower Self to the ‘Higher
Self’ without allowing self-doubts and fear, laziness and procrastination,
chaos and indiscipline to snatch from you what you want from life.
