Success requires
wisdom. Wisdom is the golden key by which you can open the door of success.
This wisdom can be best acquired by reading books that enlightens our purpose
in earth. It is by reading books that we get the treasures of distance at our
own fist. Business Leaders like Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and Elon Musk who are
widely admired by people across the globe are voracious readers. Warren Buffet
spends five to six hours per day reading five newspapers and 500 pages of corporate
reports; Bill Gates reads 50 books per year and Elon Musk grew up reading two
books per day.1 If you want to become ultra successful in your life
you must develop the habit of reading books. But to get the fullest benefit of book
reading, you must know the art of reading effectively. In this blog, I am going
to share with you Six Reading Habits by developing which you can massively
transform your life.
1.
Good
Concentration: Good concentration is a combination of
body, mind and soul. When your energy level, thoughts and purpose of life is
aligned, you attain highest level of concentration in your works. Concentration
requires attention. Attention comes from an intention to Concentrate and the
intention to concentrate develops from interest. Therefore, you must apply your
concentration power in the areas where you have intense interest that helps you
in your personal growth that is aligned with your purpose in life. Develop the
habit of reading books in your most interested areas that serves your purpose. Effective
Concentration must be made a habit to derive maximum benefit out from reading. The
better concentration you develop and retain by making it a habit, the more developed
and effective will be your learning competencies.
2.
Maintaining
a Reading Routine: A daily reading routine is instrumental
not only for effective reading but also for habitual concentration. It is
because a power is developed in you when you repeat the same thing at the same
time on a daily basis. If you develop the habit of study at a particular period
of time every day, concentration will come to you naturally and effortlessly.
Your mind will not drift away easily from your reading. You must therefore,
maintain a reading routine on a daily basis to make effective reading a habit.
3.
Avoiding
Distractions: Distractions are enemy of effective
reading. You must be able to eliminate distractions that distract you from
making your reading effective. Never allow yourself to engage in other
activities while reading. Don’t mix watching television and reading together;
don’t engage yourself in Social Media during reading hours as these activities
will lower down your concentration level and deprive you to become an effective
reader. Choose a better environment to study which is free from distractions and make it
a habit of reading.
4.
Developing
Learning Strategies: Your reading must be a part of your
learning strategy. You must be careful about choosing your books for reading.
Your books must be relevant to you and help you to improve in any of your
chosen areas. You must choose your priorities and follow them accordingly.
5.
Taking
Important Notes: Taking important notes help you to
retain key points from a book. It serves as an important and ready reference
for you. Good note taking is an essential skill which will provide you in a
greater control of your time, energy and productivity. You will be able to
reduce your reading hours drastically if you master the art of taking notes of
important points and make it your habit.
6.
Practicing
Retrieval: Memory is
knowledge itself. If you remember nothing, you have learnt nothing. Without
linking your knowledge with your memory,
you will make no progress. You will remain in the same place over and over
again. Therefore practice retrieval of information deliberately. This practice
will help you retain the information you have read from a book. Practicing to
write a short summary of every book you read will help you to become a highly effective
reader and you can keep on accelerating your intelligence on a continuous
basis.
